Who did Daniel think he was fooling? He knew that Brianna could bring him to his knees if she wanted to, and she just might. She stormed into the house and slammed the front door.

“Brianna, we need to talk to you,” her adoptive mother Rhonda called out as Brianna headed up the stairs.

“Later,” Brianna yelled over her shoulder.

Rhonda rolled her eyes as she followed Brianna up the stairs and into her bedroom.

“What’s wrong?” Rhonda asked.

“Nothing.”

“You sure? Is it the baby’s dad?”

“No. What do you want?”

“Well, the adoption agency called today and they’re offering you a settlement for the mix-up.”

“Money?”

“Yeah. We’ll have to go and discuss the details with them, but I called the lawyer and he said the agency will want you to keep the amount private and agree never to tell anyone about the mix-up or the settlement.”

“How much are they offering?” Brianna asked, smiling from ear to ear.

“One hundred thousand dollars.”

Brianna gasped.

“Damn, I can work with that.”

“Brianna, don’t start spending it yet.”

“I’m not, I’m not.”

Brianna still had to decide what she was going to do about Daniel’s insubordination, but for now he was off the hook. She was going to have one hundred thousand dollars soon to spend as she pleased. That was enough to make any girl smile and forget about a man.
